Barcelona, May 15, 2026 — The 53rd Trofeo de Vela Conde de Godó OOA gets underway today in Barcelona waters with the first of the three competition blocks scheduled for this year’s edition, entirely dedicated to the J70 class.

The historic regatta organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona introduces this year a new format structured across three consecutive weekends, a sporting reorganization designed to optimize participation and adapt each block to the specific characteristics of the different competing classes.

The opening event of the 2026 Trofeo Conde de Godó OOA will feature strong international participation, bringing together 22 teams from nine nationalities: Germany, France, Portugal, South Korea, Turkey, Denmark, Hungary, Austria and Spain.

The sporting schedule includes a maximum of 12 races between today, Friday, and Sunday on windward-leeward courses off the Barcelona coastline.

Activities begin this morning with the opening of the regatta office, registration confirmation, official crew weighing and J70 equipment inspections. The first races are scheduled to start at 3:00 PM.

Racing will continue on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 PM onwards, while the official prize-giving ceremony will take place on Sunday at 5:00 PM at the facilities of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona.

Weather forecasts point to a championship opening marked by southeasterly winds of 12 to 14 knots during Friday’s opening day, accompanied by moderate sea conditions and a risk of showers.

For Saturday and Sunday, the forecast maintains southeasterly winds, although with lighter intensities around 10 knots, conditions that could favour very close racing and highly tactical competition.

Beyond the sporting aspect, this opening event of the Trofeo Conde de Godó OOA will also serve as a prelude to the J70 European Championship, which the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona will host next July.

The 2026 edition also represents another step forward in the evolution of the event thanks to the incorporation of Oxford Oil Additives (OOA) as the new title sponsor of the regatta. From an environmental perspective, the event will also feature the BGSS sustainability certification awarded by Bgreenly.

Created in 1974 and backed by the Godó family since its origins, the Trofeo Conde de Godó is the longest-running uninterrupted cruiser regatta in Spain, reinforcing its status as a historic and sporting benchmark in Spanish sailing.

The 53rd Trofeo de Vela Conde de Godó OOA is organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona under delegation from the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and with the collaboration of the Catalan Sailing Federation.

The event is supported by title sponsor Oxford Oil Additives together with La Vanguardia, the Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia.

Collaborators include Mapfre, Musto, De Antonio Yachts, Barcelona Capital Nàutica, Bgreenly, Veri, Royal Bliss, Estrella Damm, Isdin and Gramona.
